I’m a New York City firefighter. I’ve spent all of my seventeen years in Harlem and the South Bronx. I love the job and the people who do it. I can’t conceive of a greater blessing than loving what you do for work.
I’ve written freelance political and economic commentary for about fifteen years and short fiction for about six. I write about what I know – a working life, the culture and camaraderie of the FDNY and the often misconstrued working-class outlook on politics and life.
My first book Looking Up (A Working View) [Quiet Storm Publishing] is due out in the Fall of 2003. Looking Up (A Working View) is a collection of observations on a wide array of topics, from dealing with the death and grief to our collective culture of discounting victims to the mixed blessings of seniority.
